NaturalPoint's SmartNav 4 is a reliable and accurate, hands-free mouse alternative that allows complete control of a computer by naturally moving the head.
With an industry leading price point and the most advanced feature set available, the SmartNav cursor control solution stands above the rest. Unlike other head tracking systems on the market, SmartNav integrates an innovative hardware design with an easy to customize software package, resulting in a complete solution for both the ergonomic and assistive technology community.
SmartNav uses an infrared (IR) camera to track your head movements.
Infrared light is emitted from the LEDs and is reflected back to the imager by a corner cube reflector (3M safety material). This reflected light is imaged by a CMOS sensor and the video signal is passed to the preprocessing electronics. The video signal is thresholded against a reference level and all passing data is sent to the USB microcontroller to send to the PC for object tracking. In order to increase the signal to noise ratio an IR filter that passes only 800nm and above is placed between the imager lens and the outside world.
The SmartNav can image any IR source; typically this is reflective material or an active IR source such as an LED. A user may track many different objects by placing reflective dots or LEDs on the object. The SmartNav has a 45 degree field of view and anything being tracked must stay in that field of view
You reflect IR light back to the SmartNav, which sends instructions to your computer to move your mouse cursor.
SmartNav tracks reflections from a tiny dot, which you can place anywhere. Place our paper thin tiny reflective dot on the part of your body you'd like to control the cursor with. Preferred options include:
SmartNav mounts on top of your monitor, laptop or communication device facing you. SmartNav can also be threaded onto a mini tripod and sit next to your computer. The device can be placed anywhere as long as it can see the reflective accessory you've chosen to wear.
Less than an inch of head movement is more than enough to move the cursor across your entire screen. This is also adjustable in the software SPEED settings. SmartNav has a 45 degree Field of View (FOV), and usually sits about 2 feet away from your head. Thus you have almost two feet of free "head space" in which to move that simple inch.
SmartNav offers multiple clicking options.
The SmartNav is both the fastest system on the market and the most adaptable to the users needs.
Each package benefits from the same broad selection of special software features, including: Gravity, Mouse Cooperative Mode, Smoothing, Separate X and Y Scaling, Pause While Typing, Hotkeys, and many more.
Below is a side-by-side comparison of our SmartNav 4 packages. Generally, the AT is for people who cannot use their hands, the EG is for people suffering from wrist strain or who wish to increase their computer productivity/speed.
